Unisex garment
For my Intro to Garment Design final, we had to create a unisex piece/toile that blends gender norms. Starting from a thrifted collared men's dress shirt, we had to copy the pattern and redesign it with unisex attributes. My garment merges oversized, boxy silhouettes with open necklines and subtle pattern alterations. During this process, I explored indigo dyeing and shibori techniques to expand the design’s textile dimension, as well as for aesthetic/visual purpose. We weren't supplied with buttons or zippers, and were asked to leave it open.
Repurposed collar from previous shirt more structured and heightening to emphasize the neck, similar to more masculine garments.
Open neck line, similar to feminine garments.
Bishop sleeves, with a muslin stripe down the middle of the indigo-dyed sleeve.
Repurposed cuffs from previous garment.
Shibori marble indigo-dyed patterns on the front and back shirt panels.
